WHAT IS IVF WITH EGG DONATION?

Egg donation is a type of assisted reproductive treatment that enables women who are unable to conceive on their own due to hereditary diseases, fertility issues, or advanced age to have children using eggs from a healthy and fertile donor. This treatment can also involve the use of sperm from the patient’s partner or a sperm donor.
The procedure, known as in vitro fertilization with egg donation (IVF), involves fertilizing the donor’s eggs with sperm from either the patient’s partner or a sperm donor. Once fertilized, the egg becomes a pre-embryo that is transferred to the patient’s uterus to continue its development and gestation.”

FOR WHOM IS THIS PROCEDURE INDICATED?

Couples

Parents

IVF with egg donation is recommended for mature women, patients with ovarian insufficiency resulting from menopause, individuals who have experienced recurrent miscarriages, or for women who have chromosomal abnormalities that could potentially impact the development of the embryo.

Single Moms

Single mother

Egg donation is also indicated for single motherhood, in those patients who have been diagnosed with infertility, whether due to advanced age or problems with the reproductive system. In these cases, the most suitable option is usually egg donation, along with the selection of a sperm donor.

Mom&Mom

Lesbian couples

If there is no possibility, due to medical diagnosis, for either woman in a couple to undergo any assisted reproduction treatment, egg donation may be an option for In Vitro Fertilization, as well as sperm donation for the same procedure.

At Amrita Fertility, we care about each patient, which is why it is essential to conduct a pre-diagnosis in order to offer you the most suitable treatment.

Before undergoing IVF with egg donation, it is recommended that patients undergo some preliminary tests to confirm the diagnosis and determine if this treatment is the most appropriate option. The tests recommended for IVF with egg donation include:

  • A hormonal analysis.
  • gynecological ultrasound to check the patient’s ovarian reserve and to rule out possible pathologies in the uterus and ovaries.
  • n some cases, depending on the patient, additional tests may be requested to ensure that there are no contraindications for treatment.

WHAT IS EGG DONATION IVF?

Egg donation works just like any other In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedure, but instead of using the patient’s own egg, the donated egg from another woman is fertilized.

Firstly, an appropriate egg donor is selected for the patient, taking into account the phenotype compatibility, meaning that a donor with physical characteristics most similar to the patient is sought.

Subsequently, the donor undergoes an ovarian stimulation treatment, followed by follicular puncture for the extraction of mature eggs.

The patient must undergo a treatment to prepare the endometrium to receive the embryos without complications.

Simultaneously, a semen sample is collected from the recipient’s spouse, or if necessary, a donor semen sample is used to carry out the In Vitro Fertilization.

An In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedure is carried out using the selected sperm and donated eggs to obtain embryos that will later be transferred to the uterus. This process is simple and does not require anesthesia.

Any remaining embryos that have not been transferred can be cryopreserved using vitrification for use in future cycles, if necessary.

After egg donation IVF, the patient undergoes monitoring and follow-up to address any concerns and ensure that she is in perfect condition throughout the treatment.

A blood pregnancy test is performed 15 days after insemination to confirm pregnancy.

During the egg donation IVF treatment, a personal assistant is available to address any questions that may arise and provide support during this important and special time in your life.

THE DONOR

WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?

Thanks to egg donation, many women can become pregnant and fulfill their dream of becoming mothers.

We have a large external egg donor database with donors of different phenotypes, and all donors undergo rigorous medical and psychological screening to ensure quality and success in treatments. Our quality standards require donors to be between 20 and 30 years old, in perfect health, and free from sexually transmitted diseases and genetic disorders, ensuring excellent egg quality.

Do you know the Assisted Reproduction Law in Spain?

The 14/2006 Law on Human Assisted Reproduction in Spain is one of the most updated and permissive regulations, which makes Spain one of the most highly regarded countries to undergo assisted reproduction treatment.

In addition, the Spanish Assisted Reproduction Law specifies that women can be recipients of these techniques regardless of their marital status or sexual orientation, allowing treatments for single women and lesbian couples.

Regarding the issue of egg donation and reception, Spain establishes that it must be anonymous, voluntary and altruistic.

Law 14/2006 on assisted human reproduction in Spain

In Spain, the donation of eggs and gametes is considered to be anonymous, voluntary and altruistic. The donation and reception process is carried out through a confidential contract and in an authorized assisted reproduction clinic.

DO YOU KNOW THE ASSISTED REPRODUCTION LAW IN YOUR COUNTRY?

Did you know that there are many differences in the legislation of Assisted Human Reproduction in each country? A large part of European countries prohibits access to donor egg reception, that is, to ovodonation treatments for patients who require it. Another reason is that in many European Union countries, donation is not anonymous, which causes great rejection by patients.

Fortunately, the Assisted Reproduction Law in Spain specifies that egg donation is anonymous and that ovodonation treatment can be performed if determined by the specialist doctor for reasons of infertility, advanced age, illness, etc.
